               What Now

On Sunday Room 7 plus 8 went to the What Now event at Shantytown.

On Saturday Luken stayed at my House for the night before we went to bed. We were playing on my Xbox. We were eating big marshmallows.  When we were playing FIFA we put the player speed up to max. We went super fast.

When we woke up we had to hurry because we did not want to be late so we got dressed then had breakfast.  On the way to Shantytown we had to pick Karmi up and we left we thought we were going to be late. We thought it was going to take 30 mins to get to Shantytown. When we got there we had to make sure we had our permission forms.

We got inside Shantytown. We had to wait for a little bit then we saw Erin, Morgan  x2Mat. We got on the train for the introduction to the What Now programme. Erin said the introduction  then everyone ran out of the train into the office. Then we did the real thing which was even more fun.

Five people got picked to do tongue twisters  if they got it wrong they got foamed. Riley foamed that he forgot to cover his eyes. Basically everyone got foamed.

After we finished the tongue twisters we all went to the gold panning area. I did it with Tyler  Issac. We found little pieces of gold but we had to put it back because we had to go do something else. On the way back to the Shantytown school house we were asking Ms Newton if she was excited to get gunged.

After we finished gold panning we went to the movie place. We did a film where everyone was lining outside waiting for the movie to start. Erin said, “Go in.”  We all went inside then we just waited in the corridor. Then we all went back outside looking disappointed because it was the worst movie we have ever seen.

When we got back to the school we saw a chair with a bucket full of gunge in it.  when Ms Newton sat in the chair. Erin was asking Ms Newton questions if she got them right we would get foamed.  If she got it wrong we would get to throw a basketball at a target if the ball hit the target the bucket full of gunge would full.  Get her! She got the first two questions right! The train driver got to foam us but Ms Newton got one wrong and they got gunged.

At the end we all were going to get foamed by Erin. It was really fun because it got everyone on the ground. We kept sliding because it was slippery.  The  foam got in everybody's eyes and it got in my mouth. The foam did not taste good. She was still shooting the foam gun. It was really fun.

Lake daniell

On the 9th room 8 went to Lake Daniels Witch is in the Southern alps but first we had to get into are  I was with Flynn, Tyler and Nathan and Flynn's dad was driving. We had a long time to make sure we were prepared.

 We were on the way to the Reefton public toilets Tyler and Nathan were saying funny jokes. So we got there we all ran into the bush and we saw a bike track and then we saw the skate park so we all went there and played in the bowl. Then we got back in the car and travel for another 10 minutes and then we were there.

The reason we went on the walk was because it was for William Pike Challenge outdoor activities and so we can get out of the classroom for fresh air when we do an outdoor activity we get to put it on are William pike blog. And before when went we did something called leave no trace and when we were walking it looked like a beach forest.

The Lake Daniell walk was about six hour 3 hour in and out when we were walking in there we a lot of hills and a the end there was the Manson Nicholas Hut/Kohanga Atawhai and then we got there we all got to have a lunch break and when we all finished lunch Jack T brought his fishing rod so he started fishing. And my classmates started walking back.

I really enjoyed how we got to get outside of the classroom and I really enjoyed the bush and I enjoyed the fresh air and the tall trees and the view. Another good thing was it was spring and it was not too cold and the leaves were green. And we did not get hypothermia and there were not many hills.

I did not enjoy when we were walking. Well we were tramping there were a lot of roots and we kept tripping on them and it would hurt my ankle and once it tripped and fell over. I also did not like how there were big mud puddles and I kept stepping in them and my shoe kept falling off.

I appreciated that the Parents came with us and helped transport and that they still did the walk with us and they would keep encouraging us when we were giving up.

I wonder how long it would have taken to build the track and how long it would have taken to build the Manson Nicholls Hut.

My Matariki star

Today we made a Matariki start out of paper and wool My star has 8 points instead of 12.Matariki is a Maori New Year.

Beach cookout

On the 1st of July my class and I went to the beach for a cookout. We went down as a class. My group was Billie, Hamish, Phoebe and me.

When we got there we had to make a fire. First we made a circle out of stones so the fire does not spread. Then we put tinder down then we put kindling over the tinder so it looked like a teepee. We only got 3 matches to use. We got it on the second try.

 We started the fire and while it was going we had to prepare food. We had to make the fire flat so we could put the pan on.

The first food we cooked was potato chips and they were really good. Next we made bacon sandwiches and ate them and they tasted delicious .

My favourite part of going was that we got time off work and we got to make food and a fire.

Science badge weather for 2 weeks

my rain gauge.

I made this rain gauge from a coke bottle i added some jelly in the bottom to that would even of the round parts of the bottle. After the jelly had set i taped a ruler to the side of it so i could see how much rain we get in cm. In great west coast weather we have not had any rain for 2 days so i could not take a reading.

Wind direction gauge

As part of my science badge i needed to make a wind direction gauge. My idea was simple but worked well. I put it outside in the right direction facing north on the day  it was spinning from south to west the most. When i went to take the video the wind had dropped so i used a fan in place of the wind.

My homemade cup anemometer

I made this cup anemometer for my science badge. To see how well it worked we went for a drive i held it out the window and counted how many times it did a full spin in 30 seconds. When we drove at 20mph it spun 22 times, at 35mph at spun 66 times and lastly we drove at 50mph and i could not keep up with the spins it went super fast. I really enjoyed making this and seeing how it worked.

My homemade pizza

Last night I made the family homemade pizza for are dinner. First I made the dough in the bread maker then I left it on the bench to rise. I prepared the ingredients to put on the pizza once the dough has rised I rolled out the dough in the shape that I wanted and then we put the toppings on that we wanted then we cooked it.
